Well for my last post I was pretty surprised to see on my Blogger Dashboard that it was post #99 which mean my next one, or rather this one, would be #100. Just as I came into the the whole teaching gig late in life (I am now 41 and just finished my 5th year in the classroom), I am also quite the newbie in the blogging world as most of the blogs I read past this milestone looong time ago. But regardless, I think it is pretty cool that my posts have now reached the triple digits.
One part of blogging that I have found the most interesting is how people actually find my little part of cyberworld. Visits to this site are tracked through SiteMeter and what I love to do is check out the referral links that brought people here. As I have posted before, I am a big believer in learning about people by the types of questions they ask and really when you think about it, Google searches really are windows into what people are asking about.
I have not formally kept track but from my casual observations the most common searches that bring people here are:
shortage of male teachersBut what cracks me up is what probably has been the number one way that people have come to my site. Back in April of 2006 I posted just a quick funny story about how one of my students mistakenly thought Sigmund Freud was the guy who got mauled by his tiger (she was thinking of Siegfried and Roy) so the title of my post was Siegfried and Freud. Well I cannot count how many people have actually searched Google for "Siegried Freud" and found this blog. The sad part is I am not sure if they are actually looking for the psychoanalyst or the flamboyant gay magicians.
teaching as a noble profession
accepting late work
in favor of standardized testing (yes, I am in favor of it)
8th grade science
So no matter how you may find my site, welcome. And to quote the immortal words heard at the end of the Beverly Hillbillies...set a spell, take your shoes off, y'all come back now, y'hear?.
